چکیده
Let H be a collection of n hyperplanes in d-space. We will assume that the planes are in general position, meaning that any k planes meet in a d− k-flat, if k = 1, . . . , d, and not at all if k > d. It is not difficult to see that worst-case cell complexity can always be achieved by planes in general position. comBoris says: True, or only asymptotically true?ment Let P be ←− Work on this paper has been supported by a grant from the U.S.-Israeli Binational Science Foundation. Knowledge Translation in Healthcare – Towards Understanding its True Complexities; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary argues that to fully appreciate the complexities of knowledge transfer one firstly has to distinguish between the notions of “data, information, knowledge and wisdom,” and that the latter two are highly context sensitive. In particular one has to understand knowledge as being personal rather than objective, and hence there is no form of knowledge that a-priori is more authoritat...
متن کاملUncertainties and Complexities of the Geological Model in Slope Stability: a Case Study of Sabzkuh Tunnel
Slope stability analysis is a geotechnical engineering problem characterized by many sources ofuncertainty. In slope stability computations, some of these sources are encountered, such as geologicaldetails missed in the exploration program, estimation of soil properties that are difficult to quantifyand many other relevant factors. Therefore, accurate reproduction of the spatial variability in ...
متن کاملGarlic Extract Can Induce Apoptotic Cell Death in The Human Colon Adenocarcinoma HT29 Cell Line
Background and Objective: Garlic has been known worldwide as a dietary constituent with many pharmacological effects. The present in vitro study was designed to investigate the putative anticancer effect of garlic extract on cancer cells, and if this effect was through apoptosis induction. Material and Methods: Human colon adenocarcinoma cells HT29 were treated with different doses (1, 5 a...
متن کاملA Nearly Quadratic Bound for the Decision Tree Complexity of k-SUM
We show that the k-SUM problem can be solved by a linear decision tree of depth O(n2 log2 n), improving the recent bound O(n3 log3 n) of Cardinal et al. [7]. Our bound depends linearly on k, and allows us to conclude that the number of linear queries required to decide the n-dimensional Knapsack or SubsetSum problems is only O(n3 logn), improving the currently best known bounds by a factor of n...
متن کاملStem Cell Therapy: the ethical issues
The ability to culture human stem cells long term, and possibly indefinitely, and to control how such cells specialise to form the different tissues of the body offers the possibility of major advances in healthcare. Stem cells have been isolated and cultured, but a great deal of research is required to develop cell lines which can generate replacement cells and tissues to treat many diseases.S...
